Comp. Fluid- & Morphodynamics
The Computational Fluid- and Morphodynamics group deals with the development and application of numerical schemes and modelling software in the fields of river and hydraulic engineering.
The focus of our research and development activities is on improving and expanding the in-house software system BASEMENT. This simulation software allows the modelling of flow and sediment transport in rivers. The applications include hazard mapping, design of hydro power facilities and flood protection measures as well as river morphology and sediment budget studies. Some application examples are depicted below.
Specific issues related to the development of BASEMENT will be investigated in the context of PhD studies, e.g. the impact of vegetation on river morphodynamics. Thus, a continuous development of the software is ensured.
Besides in-house model developments, also non-commercial and commercial codes are used, e.g. OpenFOAM, FLOW-3D.
The division participates in teaching and the supervision of Master theses in the field of numerical simulation.
Details on the individual projects can be found in our publications or among our research topics.
Our research is being funded by various institutions, whose sustainable support is much appreciated.
